Alert!! Senate to Slash Dearborn Public Schools $7,600,000

Alert!! Senate to Slash Dearborn Public Schools $7,600,000

Alert!!

We just received extremely disconcerting news that we thought we had averted by your initiative earlier this year. The State Senate is now not only considering cutting $100 per pupil of State Aid for all districts, but also cutting Dearborn Public Schools another $5,800,000 in category 31A at risk monies. This total would add up to $7,600,000 in additional cuts on top of our present cuts of $11,000,000 for a total of $18,600,000 before next school year. We are the only district to receive such a disproportional amount in state aid cuts. Also, we are already contributing approximately $15,000,000 of our tax dollars back to the state. Our plea has always been to cut all districts the same throughout the State of Michigan.

At this time you do not need to contact our Dearborn state senators and representatives. They are already fighting for us. Please though do not hesitate to call the Governor’s office, other senators and representatives that you may know from other areas, and any other contacts that would be of some influence on this situation. We just found out about this bill, but the vote is taking place tomorrow in the Senate. After the Senate the bill would go to the House.

Call Governor Granholm at 517-373-3400 and /or fax her at 517-335-6863.
