This year the Haigh School PTA has chosen the Starfish Family Services Organization to support. This special organization strengthens families in need so they can create brighter futures for their children. They are located right here in Inkster, Michigan.

**Disposable diapers/pullups: any size
**Baby wipes
**School supplies: pencils, pens, notebooks, etc.

The District is pleased to announce a new feature that has been requested by parents for some time now... Email Search.
You can now search for email addresses from the district website, allowing you to find staff contact information quickly and easily.You can go here to find the link to search email accounts.
This is one feature enhancement that is a part of a much larger upgrade to our district website. Other enhancements will be coming soon such as improved navigation, better organization of resources and links, better integration of the various website features such as D-Tube, School Matters News Portal, and the PTSA website. We are striving to make the website easier to find information. With over 2000 pages and many more links and documents, this is no easy task and will continue to evolve as we move forward.

Encouraging American Girls to Embrace Math
Christine Berryman alerted me to the NPR radio show "Talk of the Nation" last Friday (9/21). The topic was Math and how to encourage girls to do well in Math.
In a new book for middle-school girls, actress and mathematician Danica McKellar argues that being good at math can be cool. Her new book is called Math Doesn't Suck: How to Survive Middle-School Math Without Losing Your Mind or Breaking a Nail. Governor Granholm Proclaims September as Michigan Reads to Children Month
Governor Jennifer M. Granholm recently proclaimed September as Michigan Reads to Children Month, encouraging parents, grandparents, siblings, teachers and caregivers across the state to take an active part in the Library of Michigan's one-state, one-children's-book program, Michigan Reads!, featuring the book "Big Chickens" written by Michigan author Leslie Helakoski and illustrated by Henry Cole.
"Big Chickens" follows four timid chickens on a humorous romp through the woods, as they manage to overcome obstacles and ultimately conquer their fears.
"One of the very best gifts we can give our children is a love of reading," Granholm said. "Reading inspires the imagination, feeds the soul, and strengthens the mind."

"We're thrilled to see how the Michigan Reads! program has grown and evolved to turn even more people onto the joy and excitement of helping Michigan's young children discover the endless possibilities of reading," said State Librarian Nancy Robertson.
