Important Parking Information

Due to the new city ordinance regarding Public Service Days, all vehicles must be removed from Dearborn streets between 7am and 4pm on these specific service days. The Haigh PTA would like to help alleviate this stressful change by posting the dates that affect our school.

On the dates that follow, there will be No Parking around Haigh School or in this neighborhood:

Wednesday, February 20
Wednesday, March 5
Wednesday, March 19
Wednesday, April 9
Wednesday, April 23
Wednesday, May 7
Wednesday, May 21
Wednesday, June 4

On these dates, it will be a drop-off process ONLY in the front of the school. This will help you avoid being ticketed by the Dearborn Police.

Kindly use the Levagood parking lot on the dates listed above for any parking needs. DO NOT use the staff parking lot for drop-off, pick-up or parking.

If more information regarding this city ordinance is needed, please contact the Dearborn Department of Works at 943-2085 or http://www.cityofdearborn.org.

Change in Winter Break Schedule!

This is from the Dearborn Schools web site -
http://apps.dearbornschools.org/dpsnews/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=73&Itemid=2

Winter Break Will Start On December 19

Originally scheduled to start on December 20, 2007 the Dearborn Public Schools will now start the Winter Break on December 19, 2007.

On Monday, December 10, 2007 district administration learned that the start of Eid Al-Adha (holiday of sacrifice) would be on December 19, 2007. Due to expected low attendance, the district will change the start of the Winter Break to December 19, 2007. State funding of schools is tied to attendance, therefore the decision to start the Winter Break one day early will avoid any potential loss in revenue, maintain the integrity of instructional time, and meet the needs of the community. All schools will close at the end of the day on December 18, 2007 and will reopen on Wednesday, January 2, 2008.

Haigh Brownie Troop - Taking Cookie Orders

The Haigh Brownie Troop will be taking orders for Girl Scout Cookies beginning on Monday, December 10th. The price remains at $3.50, and the usual favorites are for sale. The sugar free cookie this year is chocolate chip. And the new cookie for the year is Lemon Chalet Creme.

Cookies will arrive around mid-February, so that gives us plenty of time to eat our Christmas cookies and work-out for the first six weeks of the new year.

Please see Christine Berryman for further information, or to place your order.

Dearborn Schools Web Site - Email Search

The District is pleased to announce a new feature that has been requested by parents for some time now... Email Search.

You can now search for email addresses from the district website, allowing you to find staff contact information quickly and easily. You can go here to find the link to search email accounts.

This is one feature enhancement that is a part of a much larger upgrade to our district website. Other enhancements will be coming soon such as improved navigation, better organization of resources and links, better integration of the various website features such as D-Tube, School Matters News Portal, and the PTSA website. We are striving to make the website easier to find information. With over 2000 pages and many more links and documents, this is no easy task and will continue to evolve as we move forward.

Haigh 5th Grade Immigration Project

Christine Berryman alerts us to this wonderful resource:

As you know the 5th graders have been assigned a writing project on immigration. I thought our Haigh parents might want to know that there is a series of films produced or in-production on the Detroit experience of different immigrant/ethnic groups. For example, Our Italian Story aired in December and Our Polish Story aired in June. Both are now on DVD. Our Greek Story is due to air in November and Our Arab-American Story in December. Channel 7 is the sponsor and the documentaries are one hour long and then the DVDs include extra footage that did not make the final edits for TV.

For more information, parents can go to www.ourstoryof.com.
