Encouraging American Girls to Embrace Math

Christine Berryman alerted me to the NPR radio show "Talk of the Nation" last Friday (9/21). The topic was Math and how to encourage girls to do well in Math.

In a new book for middle-school girls, actress and mathematician Danica McKellar argues that being good at math can be cool. Her new book is called Math Doesn't Suck: How to Survive Middle-School Math Without Losing Your Mind or Breaking a Nail. Here is the link to the NPR website which only includes a book excerpt: http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=14594340

Our local Dearborn Public Library system has 4 copies of this book. You can place a hold on the book by visiting http://www.dearbornlibrary.org and clicking on "Library Catalog" in the upper left corner of the web page. You must have a valid Dearborn Library card in order to place a hold.
